Abstract

Ice hockey demands both aerobic and anaerobic capacity as well as sensorial functions. In order to analyze these predispositions in relationship to the age and/or performance level, a group of top league ice hockey players and a group of young ones were examined by a bicycle ergometry combined with perimetry. The VO2max and maximal power output related to body weight in league players were comparable to those in young players similarly to maximal lactate levels. Perimetry did not show any significant differences in the width of visual field, neither between pre- and postexercise values, nor between adult and junior subjects. However, analyzing the individual alterations in perimetry, both in 57 of adult players and in 57 of young ones a decrease in width of visual field at maximal exercise was found. The results showed no different characteristics depending on age and/or performance level when the functional variables were related to body weight. Verf.-Referat
