Abstract
Persistent pain, swelling, and giving way commonly occurs after lateral ligament injuries of the ankle. Stability must first be assessed and then diagnostic efforts made to determine whether there is intra-articular or extra-articular pathology. Many intra-articular or periarticular problems can be treated arthroscopically with excellent results. These arthroscopic approaches reduce morbidity and allow the patient earlier return to function.
