Abstract

Eleven healthy men aged 18-21 years were subjected to graded cycloergometer exercises in normothermia, hyperthermia and hyperthermia with neck cooling by using a plastic bag with water flowthrough. As compared with those who performed exercise without cooling, the neck cooling reduced the heart rate by 14 beats/min, increased the stroke volume by about 20 ml (at work loads of 50 and 100 W) and the cardiac output by about 2.51 l/min. Also the work capacity was in those subjects increased. Neck cooling had no effect on the inner body temperature but the changes in stroke volume and cardiac output indicate an improved circulatory efficiency. Verf.-Referat
