Abstract

The authors have considered the data which emerged from the ten year activity (1982-1991) of the Sports Medicine Service at the ULSS at Giulianova. The causes of non-suitability which interest 0.41 of the cases (45 people) have stood out from the examination of 10,984 files. Disorders of the circulatory system are the main causes (78) of non suitability: mostly-referred to adults who practise aerobics. The contrast is only apparent, but, with the affirmation, shared by all, on the utility of aerobics int he prevention and rehabilitation of adults suffering from chronic diseases (coronary heart diseases, hypertension, etc.). The judgement of non suitability shouldn`t be irrevocable, but referred to the present condition of the athlete and stat of our knowledge. We hope for a wider circulation of the reports on cases and experiences of the various Centres and Services of Sports Medicine and for the establishment of a National Epidemiology Observatory, where all the data collected can be inserted.
