Abstract

This short article stems from an informal invitation by the Newsletter editor to examine, from the view point of a clinical psychologist, some parallels between Clinical Psychology and Sports Psychology. There are apparently still very few clinical psychologist members of BSSP. Of these some have direct links with competitive sport while others, of which the present contributor is one, have become aware of the relevance of Sports Psychology to their clinical work with problems such as the control of obesity, smoking, exercise planning and rehabilitation. It seems an important question to ask what contributions, if any, can the principles and methods of Clinical Psychology make to Sports Psychology and, similarly, to ask what Clinical Psychology can learn from Sports Psychology. This article is an attempt to clarify some personal thoughts about this issue without attempting in any way to suggest simple answers or solutions. Verf.-Referat
