Abstract

The paper primarily deals with the relationships between achievement motivation and athletic performance. The phenomenon of achievement is described through definition, some personality characteristics, and analogies. Empirical data suggest that there is a distinguishable correlaiton and relationship between achievement motivation and the athlete and his performance. It is also evident that a tone may be set which can either encourage or discourage the above mentioned relationship through a process of climate adjustment and leader/participant relationships. An attempt was made to formulate a practical format so that one could apply the theories of achievement motivation to athletics and the participants therein. Some of the areas covered included recruiting, scheduling, practice, pre-season conditioning, playing experience, and post-season activities. Verf.-Referat
