Abstract

The present study examined the effects of relaxation training, attentional training, and relaxation training plus attentional training on anxiety and attentional style measures. The measures used were the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Test of Attentional and Interpersonal Style, and the Porteus Maze Test. Subjects were high-school athletes from two schools. Data were analyzed using a series of one-way ANOVAs which revealed that when compared with a control all three treatment methods were effective in reducing reported state anxiety. No significant differences were observed among the three treatment methods nor did nay of them result in significant differences in attentional style. All three treatment groups scored significantly better than the control group on the Maze test performance measure. Verf.-Referat
