Abstract

The attributional strucutre of causes of sport competition results has been presented. A questionnaire, based on the 4-pool categorization of Weiner, was so constructed as to bring out and evaluate the stable-unstabl, and the internal-external causes of successes and failures. The study was conducted in two stages, 3-4 months apoart, the numbers of male elite athletes in the two stages being 35 and 39, respectively. Stage II took place shortly before the Olympic Games. The rainking order of the improtance of causes was identical in both stages, the invested effort rated highest, abilities rated second, while luck/change and task difficulty, had a much lower importance ascribed. It was unteresting to note a relatively weak attributional asymmetry, evidenced by assuming responsibility for failures. Verf.-Referat
