Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine if any changes in state anxiety or performance occurred due to the treatment of Anticipated Videotape Feedback. A secondary purpose was to examine the effect a subjects sex had on the initial purpose. Twenty-eight males and twenty-eight females were randomly assigned to control and videotape treatments. Subjects completed Spielbergers State Anxiety Scale of the STAI, performed 15 practice trials on a motor performance task (Stabilometer), were informed of the upcoming treatment, completed Spielbergers State Anxiety Scale once again, and performed the last 6 treatment trials. Profile analysis reported no differences between males and females. When state anxiety levels of control subjects decreased before the last 6 trials, performance did not increase over the last 6 trials. State anxiety levels of the treatment groups though, did maintain its optimal levels and performances increased over the last 6 trials. The treatment groups increase in performance was attributed to the subjects state anxiety level and not any videotape feedback. Verf.-Referat
