Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to discover whether reactive inhibition (IR) in sports with cyclical forms of movement is related to performance. The number of involuntary rest pauses (IRPs) occuring in a 1 minute tapping experiment was used as a measure of IR. Groups of breast-stroke swimmers, crawlers, rowers and sprinters were investigated; for crawlers and rowers there was a negative correlation between number of IRPs and performance, and a positive correlation for breast-stroke swimmers and sprinters.
