Abstract

The effects of incremental cycling until exhaustion on plasma triacyglycerol (TG), free fatty acid (FFA), glycerol and glucose concentrations was studied in 29 elite wrestlers. The exercise resulted in significant elevation in plasma FFA, glycerol and glucose levels (by 37, 73 and 40 respectively). No changes in the mean plasma TG concentration was observed after exercise. However, a significant negative correlation of the pre-exercise plasma TG concentrations and percent changes in TG level after exercise was found (r = 0.42). The results indicate that the early elevation in plasma TG level is observed in the subjects with low initial TG concentration. The role of lipoprotein lipase and of the relationship between its activity and plasma TG concentraiton is discussed as a possible reason of the observed correlation. In addition, post-exercise acidosis is supposed to affect plasma TG behaviour by the end of short-term exercise. Verf.-Referat
