Abstract

The study examined the determinants of job satisfaction in career expectations of coaches in Nigeria. One hundred predominantly male coaches, in various were randomly selected from 5 states in Nigeria. The Ugwuegbu and Ogundeyins (1977) (Job Satisfaction Scale) (JSS), with 24 items was used for data collection. The data were processes by a computer, which calculated the simple percentages, t-test, Pearson product correlation and the analysis of variance (ANO-VA). Majority of the coaches reported evidence of dissatisfaction with opportunity for decision making, relationship with colleagues, and retirement provisions. As part of determinants of job satisfaction, the married coaches were significantly more satisfied than their unmarried counterparts. There were significantly positive correlation between experience, number of promotion obtained and the level of job satisfaction, while a non-significant negative correlation was observed between age and level of job satisfaction.
