Abstract

The purpose of this investigation was to test the basic tenets of perseverative consolidation theory by studying the relationship between stress and the performance and learning of a pursuit rotor task. Subjects were given 21 20-second acquisition trials under induced stress coinditions followed 24 or 48 hours later by nine trials in the absence of a threat of shock. The 21 acquisition trials were analyzed using time in target (TOT) scores to determine the effects of stress on performance. The results of this analysis revealed reliable differences for trial blocks, but not for stress or sex of subject. After an interpolated rest period, TOT recall scores failed to reveal a facilitative effect due to stress as predicted by perseverative consolidation theory. Verf.-Referat
