Abstract

The purpose of the present paper is to review research which has focused on the impact of group size in sport and physical activity. Five general issues are highlighted. The first pertains to the relationship between group size and group cohesiveness. The second deals with how the dynamics of leadership are influenced by increasing numbers of group members. The third focuses on the impact of increasing group size on group member psychological states. The fourth is concerned with how (and under what circumstances) performances and productivity are influenced when individuals go from working alone to working with other people. The final centers around the question of an ideal group size for sport and physical activity groups. Verf.-Referat
