This paper presents a summary of three studies examining the predictive validity of the attention-related subscales of the TAIS. The ability of the TAIS to predict skill level in cricket, fencing and basketball was assessed. Examination of the second order factor structure of the TAIS revealed a similar pattern across the three studies. Although support for the attentional dimension of bandwidth was obtained, it was seen as being multidimensional, consisting of scan and focus components, rather than unidimensional as originally proposed. No support was obtained for the direction dimension. Furthermore, examination of the first order structure suggested that the attentional sclaes of the TAIS may not by factorially valid. Finally, across the three studies the TAIS attentional-style subscales were not able to adequately or reliably differentiate between athletes of different skill levels. It was concluded that the use of the TAIS as a research instrument for measuring attentional-style in sport should be questioned. Verf.-Referat
