Abstract

The Sport Attributional Style Scale (SASS) is a valid and reliable measure ofsport-related attributional style along the dimensions of internality, stability, globality, controllability, and intentionality. The full-length, 16-item form, however, requires 20-30 minutes to complete. Therefore, it may be beneficial to have a shortened version of the SASS for use in situations where time is limited. In this paper three potential 10-item versions are presented. The short forms were created by conducting restrictedfactor analyses on responses from three groups of subjects and deleting the paired items with the lowest factor loadings. Correlations between the 16-item and 10-item versions demonstrate that the dimensional subscale scores remain virtually the same when the short forms are used. Evidence is also presented that the short form correlates significantly withattributions about real-life experiences. Verf.-Referat
