Abstract

Job satisfaction and motivation to improve work productivity, smoking habits, and absenteeism are considered behavioural variables which may be modified trough appropriate treatment. This study examined the effect of a physical activity programme variables. Five hundred and twenty-two pharmaceutical employees randomly allocated into two groups were assigned to social and physical activities during seven months. The data were analysed by applying repeated measures ANOVA and non-parametric statistical analysis, respectively. Results revealed that an increase in work demands resulted in a significant decrease in job satisfaction. Employees engaged in social intervention showed greater dissatisfaction than employees in the physical activity group. Absenteeism from work due to illness did not change during the seven month period. The number of smokers decreased similarly in both groups from 34.5 at the outset of the study to 27.8 at the end of the study. However smoking employees in physical activity had a greater reduction in the average number of cigarettes smoked per day than their counterparts in the social programme. Verf.-Referat
