Abstract

The evaluation of the efficiency of gymnasts is far from objective. Our aim was to work out a performance measuring test to get a reliable picture of the preseason period. A correlation was found between the annual performance and the parameters gained by spiroergometry, different field tests and during competitions. The training competition, similar to the conditions of a genuine one, proved to be the most adequate test. The results were in accordance with the ones of the given preseason period. The maximal value of lactic acid level ranged between 5-7 mmol/l. The relative aerobic capacity of the team observed during the treadmill ergometry was 52.8 mml/kg. It is very remarkable to mention that the most successful gymnastss relative aerobic capacity was significantly higher than the mentioned value, her lactic acid values were significantly lower than that of the others and no injuries occurred on her. Negative correlation (r = -0.63) was found between the annual performance (score number) and the lactic acid level assessed during the field tests. In conclusion we can establish that endurance capacity has, even in case of gymnasts, great importance considering the efficiency and its role in the injury prevention cannot be neglected either.
