Abstract

The paper reports an experimental study using polydesoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) in the treatment of athletes from different disciplines suffering from pubalgia. PDRN is an natural active component whose antiphlogistic effect is coupled to an anti-complement action. Patients were divided into two groups. Both groups were treated using two topical infiltrations of PDRN a week and were required to rest. In addition, the first group received Ionophoresis therapy twice a week using FANS and CO2 scansion laser, whereas the second groups received i.m. PDRN therapy once daily. Patients were assigned to a group according to their entry number: odd numbers formed part of group 1 and even numbers group 2. Each group was further subdivided into three subgroups according to the duration of disease: onset less than 3 months prior to the study, less than 1 year and more than 1 year. A total of 213 patients were treated: 210 males and 3 females. Results confirmed the efficacy of the two treatment protocols, both of which were statistically highly significant following 14 days of therapy, but did not show any statistically significant differences between the two groups.
