Abstract

Previous studies in our institute showed that long-term administration of natural alkaline mineral water (Sangemini) provokes, for the same amount of effort, a decrease in heart rate, oxygen consumption and minute ventilation and an improved performance of maximum effort. We suggest that this is due to a blocking of acid ions which are produced during maximum physical activity. A further study was therefore carried out to analyze the behaviour of the hematic lactate in basal conditions and as result of effort, before and after administration of the mineral water under study. Ten subjects performed a maximum effort cycloergometer test before and after mineral water administration for 10 days. No statistically significant changes were found compared with the basal values while the blood lactate after effort was notably lower following treatment. The results obtained are exmained and a possible mechanism of action of the mineral water is suggested. Verf.-Referat
