Abstract

The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of local plasma triacylglycerols (TG) hydrolysis on the metabolism of free fatty acids (FFA) and TG in different types of skeletal muscles. The experiments were carried out on male Wistar rats in the following groups: 1 - control group, 2 - treated with Triton WR 1339 (Tyloxapol, Sigma). FFA and TG were estimated in the soleus, red and white part of the gastrocnemius. Muscle FFA, TG and plasma TG concentration were measured at rest and after stimulation of the sciatic nerve. It has been found that treatment with Triton reduced FFA and TG concentration only in the red part of the gastrocnemius of the resting limb. It is concluded that continuous uptake of plasma TG is necessary to maintain stable resting concentration of FFA and TG only in a muscle composed of fast-twich oxidative glycolytic fibres.
