Abstract
The present article examines the disturbing phenomenon of fan violence in sports. Though this tissue has received considerable popular and media attention, there has been little effort on the part of psychologists to investigate fan violence in a systematic manner. In order to effectively address this concern, first, an historical perspective on its occurrence is provided. Second a review of previous theories of crowed behavior and fan violence is offered. Third, the essential components of fan violence is defined. Finally, a psychological model of fan violence is presented as a means of providing a better understanding of the salient factors that contribute to the emergence of fan violence. Verf.-Referat
