Abstract

In this paper we compared the alimentary behaviour in both professional (13 football players) and amateur (5 long-distance runners) athletes, none of them had ever had the advantage of dietary consultancy. By controlling daily food intake, we found that professional rather than amateur athletes had a caloric intake lower than the ideal (-14) and this mainly because of a glucose intake lower than that recommended (-22). We hypothesized that the professional structure includes a general mandate which can also interest those behaviours which are not strictly inherent to sporting performance, as is the case with alimentary behaviour.
