Abstract
The study evaluates the effect of a soccer match on alpha-human atrial natriuretic polypeptide (ANP) plasma levels on eight subjects. The data show a slight decrease of body weight (<) and increase (1) of haematocrit, which are suggestive of a negligible water loss and haemoconcentration. While cortisol increases significantly at the end of the match and remains elevated 120 afterwards, testosterone is unchanged at the end and decreases only after 120. This behavior is expected in relation to a competition; on the other hand ANP level increases significantly at the end of the match, remaining however in the physiological range.
