Abstract

With the aim of knowing the cardiodynamic changes induced by tennis, five young (16.2+/-0.4 years) tennis players were tested with an impedance cardiograph while standing at rest, immediately after two typical training exercises: exercise A lasted ten minutes and consisted of catching the ball while tennis players ran from one to the other side of the tennis court, exercise B consisted of catching forty balls thrown in rapid succession. With respect to rest conditions, stroke volume was reduced more after A (-50) than B (-34). Since diastolic arterial blood pressure was reduced more after A (-32) than B (-16), it was concluded that after exercise A there was a greater muscle vessel dilatation than after exercise B, and this could reduce venous return more in A than in B.
