Abstract

A retrospective study was carried out to collect data on sports injuries and preventive measures in a population of indoor korfballplayers, aged 30 years and older after the competition 1988-1989. A questionnaire was sent to an a-select sample of 2000 players of any competition level. The analyses have been made for men and women, and for two age groups. The incidence was 21, without significant differences between men and women. The ankle was the most common site of injury (37). Men between 30 and 40 years had the highest risk to get an ankle injury. Hand and finger injuries were the second most common site; especially women formed a high-risk group for these problems. Fractures were only found in korfballplayers, aged 40 years and older. In 44 of the cases medical consultation was needed. Women aged 40 years and older had applicated preventive measures less frequent in comparison with man of any age and women between 30 and 40 years. Only 8 of the variance between injured and non-injured players could be explained by the use of tape and shoes absorbing axial forces. Verf.-Referat
