Abstract

In 1987 measurements of 27 anthropometric characteristics were carried out in 29 members of the male basketball national team, and in 26 members of the female one. The results were compared with those collected in 1971, as well as with analogous measurements in non-trained male and female subjects. All subjects were between 18 and 29 year of age. The results were evaluated by using Perkals indices as modified by Milicerowa. Besides, arithmetic means and SDs were computed, and the corresponding values were compared by using the Students t-test. The obtained results indicate that from 1971 to 1987 the somatotypes of athletes did not change considerably, but the body build of 1987 players was in some details inferior to that of the 1971 ones.
