Abstract

The effects of citric acid administration on the development of exhaustion and biochemical responses in rats exercised by treadmill running were studied. Citric acid in a dose of 0.4 g/kg p.o., 20 min prior to exercise had not affected running time to exhaustion (30 m/min up 15 degrees incline or 45m/min up 15 degrees incline). There were no significant differences between control and citric acid treated animals, either in resting or post-exercise values of plasma lactate, glucose, triglyceride and glycerol. In resting muscle (soleus) glycogen level was similar under both conditions. The exercise-induced decrease in glycogen level was lower in citric acid treated animals. Verf.-Referat
