Abstract

The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of training of wrestlers on the isoenzyme profile of creatine kinase (CK) in plasma. The studied material was blood obtained from fingertip taken 19 hours after the end of a training bout for increasing general strength. In plasma total CK activity and the activity of its isoenzymes (CKMM, CKMB, CKBB) were determined. It is believed that endurance training increases the activity of the CKMB and CKBB isoenzymes in the skeletal muscles. This increase is parallelled in plasma during exercise-induced change of the permeability of cell membrane of muscle fibres. On the basis of the results of this study it is concluded that wrestlers training may be also a stimulus producing changes in the isoenzyme profile of creatine kinase in the skeletal muscle with increased activity of CKMB and CKBB which was a characteristic feature of well trained athletes. The obtained results suggest, moreover, that determination of the activity of CK isoenzymes in plasma, particularly measurement of CKBB activity, may be used, in the future, for assessing the degree of training athletes in various sports.
