Abstract
The diagnosis of tennis elbow requires an understanding of the anatomy and pathology of the lesion. Most cases are due to unresolved painful scar tissue at the specialised insertion of tendons into bone. However, consideration should be given to the less common causes of elbow pain which may be even more amenable to correct treatment. The cornerstone of treatment is rest, which does not have to be absolute but is sufficient to alleviate most pain and allow repair. Other useful treatments are the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, the forearm brace and isometric followed by isotonic exercises. Rehabilitation proceeds parallel with therapy and must include attention to the type, weight and balance of the players racket, string tensions and grip size. Since the natural history is in both the patients and the doctors favour, this regimen should be successful in over 99 of players who sustain a tennis elbow. Verf.-Referat
