Abstract

Because of increasing popularity of tennis some investigations have been conducted in motor learning with the use of a cup-and-ball. Two groups of young people have been investigated: 1. Tennis players - members of the section from the sports club Start, 2. students from a vocational (building) school - control group. They were investigated in three series of trials, 20 trials in each group for three successive days. It was found that group 1 achieved statistically better results in comparison to group 2 in all the trials. We suppose that this can be explained by means of transfer (transfer of practice) from the activities connected with playing tennis to the laboratory activities. Assuming that there is transfer from sports to laboratory activities, one can expect that such transfer also exists from laboratory to sport activities. In other words, cup-and-ball exercises are able to form habits which are necessary for playing tennis by forming such features as coordination, concentration and speed. Motor trials with cup-and-ball could be used in the diagnosis as well as in the prognosis in tennis, after having conducted investigations and elaborated norms. Verf.-Referat
