Abstract

Five national team male rowers performed a 16 min graded exercise on a rowing ergometer, five times, in different training periods of the annual training cycle. Power output at the level of AT (LA = 4 mmol/l) and maximal power achieved during the last part of exercise (W/kg) were considered as indices of their aerobic and anaerobic capacities, respectively. Exercise-induced increments of 12 biochemical and hormonal parameters in blood were tested as hypothetical indices of the top rower performance. By using statistical analysis (ANOVA III and correlation coefficients), seven compounds were selected, whose theoretical profiles were similar to two main theoretical ones (A and B). Because of empirical data power output at AT and of maximal power were significantly correlated with theoretical profile A, and profile B, respectively, we suggested that determination of lactate, CK, AspAT, hGH, cortisol, K+, Cu++ may have a diagnostic value in the competitive rowing.
