Abstract

The relationships between hormonal (serum cortisol and growth hormone) and physiological (body weight, maximum power, VO2max, maximum HR, lactate, pH) parameters were studied in 44 male and 37 female rowers, who performed graded exercises on a rowing ergometer till exhaustion. A positive correlation between post-exercise cortisol and lactate was significant only in male rowers while in women a significant multiple correlation of cortisol with oxygen uptake and body weight was found. Significant correlations were also observed between growth hormone and HRmax in rowers, both in males (positive) and in females (negative). These male and female athletes differed also in the frequency of exercise-induced, significant decreases in serum cortisol (2 and 30, respectively). Verf.-Referat
