Abstract
Under average environmental conditions, pulmonary contributions to exercise are very efficient in the healthy individual. When pulmonary disease is present, however, or when exercise is conducted at high altitude, performance can be limited. The limitations induced by altitudes and the medical considerations in dealing with exercise-induced asthma (EIA) and chronic bronchopulmonary disease have to be realized when writing the exercise prescription.
