Abstract

Direct violence is the most common cause of isolated fibular fractures. In long distance runners, fibular stress fractures are common injuries, usually occurring in the distal fibula. In sprinters, however, stress fractures are reported to be uncommon. Spontaneous fractures have been reported in the humerus and in the fibula after forceful muscular contraction. We recently treated a high school sprinter who sustained an acute fracture of her fibula while sprinting. In a review of the literature, a similar case could not be found. Verf.-Referat
