Abstract

Advanced athletes from different sport disciplines were studied with regard to the sagittal shape of the spine. It was found that, as compared with a reference group of non-trained students, practising different competitive sports affected different parameters of the shape of spine, and thus the posture. Athletes practising sports requiring speed and reflex (e.g. handball and fencing) had extremely big spine curvatures as opposed to those submitted to big axial loads and practising strength (e.g. weightlifters).
