Abstract

This paper recapitulates a series of investigations devoted to the role of temperamental reactivity for sport success in wrestling. Investigations have shown that temperamental reactivity does not determine sport success in wrestling (and cannot become the basis for selection in this sport, but shows the way in which one wrestler can attain mastery. For example low reactive athletes better tolerate physical effort, but have lower technical abilities than highly reactive wrestlers. These investigations permit not only to resolve the theoretical dilemma, but also lead to several practical recommendations. The most important recommendations refer to individualization of training and planning training loads during the direct preparation and to long-term training of wrestlers manifesting different reactivity.
