Abstract

The most effective way to lose body fat is with a program that incorporates a reduction in caloric intake in addition to an increase in caloric expenditure. A loss of 1 to 1.5 pounds of fat per week is necessary for optimal long-term results. Exercise programs should be started slowly, and once conditioned, maintained for 30 minutes 3 to 4 times per week at a moderate exercise intensity.
