Abstract

The problem of body asymmetry in sportswomen has not been sufficiently investigated. In the present study the relationships between the specificity of physical activity in football and the asymmetry in 21 anthropometric parameters (circumferences of the extremities, skin folds and lean body-fat tissue proportions) have been presented. Female football players (n=65), mean age 21 years, practising this sport for more than two years, were studied. Asymmetry was evaluated by the method of Nacheva and by the frequency of occurence. According to this method, the left-right differences were standardized by the so-called asymmetry units. It was established that the asymmetry bore the effects of physical activity specificity in football, being most expressed in the lower extremities. The presented results may provide a basis for a diagnostic test in assessing morphological asymmetry in different sports. Verf.-Referat
