Abstract

The purpose of the study was to analyze the effects of earlier maximal exercise on the ability of anaerobic-phosphagen power in rowers during two periods of a years training cycle. Seven oarsmen were studied on two occasions. Aerobic capacity was determined during progressive exercise on a Medicor cycloergometer, and anaerobic power - with the Margaria-Kalamen test. Between the two periods of investigations an increment of aerobic power was observed, with stabilized anaerobic-phosphagen power. Correlation coefficient between VO2max and anaerobic-phosphagen power was 0.78 and 0.94 for the first and second investigation periods, respectively. Earlier maximal exercise until fatigue did not affect phosphagen power in the first period of investigations. In the second period, higher anaerobic-phophagen power values were observed after maximal exercise. It may be concluded that 5 min rest interval between termination of exercise and phosphagen power measurement was sufficient for phosphagen power regeneration and, in the second investigation period, even for increased capability of phosphagen power development.
