Abstract

To evaluate the relationship between maximal isometric force and anaerobic capacity, 8 rowers and 9 physical education students were examinated. The maximal isometric force of knee- or hip-extensors (left, right) were measured in both groups. Then, the Wingate anaerobic test was performed, and the following variables were determined: peak power, anaerobic capacity, power decrease. Results indicate that students, in comparison to rowers, developed lower maximal isometric force and lower peak power and anaerobic capacity. The main finding of this study is the relationship between peak power, anaerobic capacity and maximal isometric force. These high positive correlations suggest that maximal isometric force and anaerobic power might be dependent on muscle fibres composition of lower limbs. Verf.-Referat
