Abstract

The principal rating sheets used in the assessment of knee injuries sustained in sport are reviewed. Particular attention is directed to the clinical and functional guidelines used in classifying the results. Fundamentally clinical, objective evaluations exist, along with others in which emphasis is placed on the subjective judgement of the athlete himself. In most cases, the sheets used by the leading authors cover both of these aspects. It is suggested, however, that what counts in obtaining a true assessment of the worth of a therapeutic result is the real level of sport the subject treated is able to achieve. Separation of the purely functional result from the clinical and instrumental objective data in two distinct sections of the sheet is therefore proposed. In addition, the part relating to the anamnesis and objective data collected, the treatment (if any), and the follow-ups are arranged in accordance with a computerised system and incorporated in a corresponding PC program, so as to provide easy handling of the information as a whole.
