Abstract
Arthroscopy is a useful way of investigating the finer anatomy of the shoulder joint. In a series of 18 cases of recurrent instability (16 due to injury, 2 atraumatic), it revealed a variously extensive Bankart lesion and a Hill-Sachs postero-superior deformity of the humeral head in 93 of the traumatic cases. Stress is laid on the importance of preoperative clinical examination, radiological examination with special projections and evaluation under anaesthesia in determining the direction of an instability. Arthroscopy results in confirmation or correction of a clinical diagnosis and permits the selection of cases in which a Bankart lesion can be repaired arthroscopically. Verf.-Referat
