Abstract
Shoulder injuries can be divided into two separate diseases: one for the older population (over 35 years of age), and one for the younger population (18 to 35 years of age). In the young population, the injuries are typically found in athletes who have engaged in repetitious and high-velocity overhand sports for many years. The crux of the problem is due to instability, and the disorder can progress along the instabilities complex: instability leads to subluxation, which leads to impingement, which leads to rotator cuff tears. This article reviews the diagnostic tools and the nonoperative treatment in caring for shoulder disorders in the young overhand athlete. Verf.-Referat
