Abstract

Glutamate plus malate oxidation, alpha-glyceroiphosphate oxidation, and mitochondrial alpha-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase activity (mPGDH), were measured in mitochondria obtained from human m. gastrocnemius. The rate of state 3 respiration with glutamate plus malate was very high when mitochondria were isolated from ischemic muscles. Prolonged peripheral arterial insufficiency did not affect in a similar manner the mPDHA and alpha-glycerophosphate oxidase activities. Our results support earlier observations of P. Schantz, who reported mPDHA to be a nonadaptive enzyme. Verf.-Referat
