Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine the early development of golf in Edmonton, from the first meeting of club members in 1896 to the establishment of the Municipal Course in 1914, how its relationship with the community and the sport itself changed. Brief histories in the form of articles, pamphlets, and books describe the early years of golf in Edmonton. However, there are a number of discrepancies in the literary sources regarding the affairs of the Edmonton Golf Club and the Victoria Municipal Golf Course. In order to understand the evolution of the above enterprises it is critical to examine the history of golf in Edmonton based on the evidence of primary sources. Verf.-Referat
