Abstract

Male subjects aged 18 - 25 years were subjected to the following exercises: (CP) - graded exercise, terminating with a maximum one, with simultaneous VO2max recording, (BC) - continuous run at a 3000 m distance, and (TM) - maximal anaerobic exercise of 1 min duration. Before and after the exercises blood was taken for measuring lactate, acid-base equilibrium, oxypurines, and activities of adenosine desaminase and AMP-desaminase. The exercise-induced changes were graded: for oxypurines and for lactate - TM > BC > CP, for AMPd - BC > CP > TM. The changes in pH, BE and adenosine desaminase were similar in all exercises. The correlations between increase and either pH or BE-decreases were highly significant in all exercises. From the fact that negative correlations between AMPd and either OXP or ADA were found in the CP-exercise, and a positive OXP/ADA correlation in the TM-exercise, it was inferred that the AMP degradation pathway depends on the intensity of exercise.
