Abstract des Autors

Changes in serum uric acid, serum creatinine and blood lactate levels were determined following a series of exercise tasks - short term (4-6 minutes) exhaustive treadmill running, cross country (15 km) running, and 60 minutes of running and cycling at 85 of maximum oxygen uptake. Following short term exhaustive exercise, blood lactate levels were elevated significantly immediately post exercise; initially, serum uric acid levels were unchanged, rising during the next 30 minutes. Following the 15 km run, blood lactate and serum uric acid levels were elevated significantly, the latter continuing to increase and remaining elevated for at least 2.5 hours post exercise; blood lactate levels had approximated pre-exercise values at 45 minutes post exercise. Total 24 hour excretion of uric acid as a result of this exercise did not increase significantly above those of inactive days. Exercise induced elevations in serum uric acid may result from enhanced uric acid production rather than reductions in glomerular filtration and lactate inhibition of renal functioning. Analyses of the different effects of running and cycling for one hour at 85 of maximum oxygen uptake indicated that serum uric acid levels were elevated immediately after the running, whereas with the cycling they were unchanged immediately post-exercise, continuing to rise thereafter to be significantly elevated at 45 minutes post exercise. Running appears to be a more provocative stimulus for hyperuricaemia than does cycling.
