Abstract
This paper will acquaint the athletic training profession with many implications of having an athlete particpate in collegiate athletics after cardiac transplantation. Because heart transplant recipients may be high school and college age students, athletic trainers must understand this student-athletes situation. This athlete has a different cardiac physiology; concomitantly, there are pharmacological requirements not normally encountered by the athletic trainer. The legal complications of this athlete must be examined and, if possible, resolved. And, finally, there are special precautions and medical procedures which must be taken to ensure the health and safety of this athlete. Verf.-Referat
