Abstract

An unusual case of isolated serratus magnus palsy in an oarsman is described. The clinical and neurophysiological profile indicated that its origin was a singular entrapment syndrome of the medial scalene: prolonged, rhythmical wielding of the oar during a training session had resulted in partial neurapraxia of the long thoracic in its passage through the medial scalene, where it is sensitive to the mechanical action of the contractile fibres. This conclusion is in line with the reports of cingulum and limb entrapment nerve syndromes reported in the literature. Verf.-Referat
